Intaglio Platter
This glorious platter which has an intricate lotus flower design and is covered in golden embossed dots can only have come from the studio of this award winning husband-and-wife ceramic artist duo, Sang Sool Shim and Keum Sun Lee.
The Studio's Yang mark, symbolising the Yang side of the Yin-Yang philosophy of harmony, balance and energy, is clearly embossed on this lovely piece.
The technique used in the creation of this work is the Korean Sanggam technique most famously used in Goryeo celadon pottery (10th-14th centuries)
This involves incising designs into the clay surface (Intaglio) and then inlaying those carved lines with contrasting coloured slip - typically white or black.
After inlaying the surface is smoothed so the inlay is flush, it is then glazed resulting in a subtle, elegant design visible beneath the translucent celedon glaze.
This platter has then been embossed with golden dots and fired for a 3rd time.
This platter looks stunning on a wall or table although hooks are not included.
Approx Size : 385 mm Diameter
