Annie Smits Sandano

Working between my studios in Hahei and Auckland, I continuously develop a broad practice encompassing painting, hoop works for walls, ceramics and printmaking.

Over the past 16 years of working professionally as an artist since graduating from Elam, I have developed my work by creating a series of cohesive works. I focus on utilising colour, texture & materials in a unique and original way, making each piece distinctively recognizable.

Recent developments include having works in the Private Collection of the Duke & Duchess of Cambridge, being selected as a finalist in the New Zealand Painting and Printmaking Award 2022, Molly Morpeth Canaday Award 2022, 2019 Portage Ceramic Awards, and in the Waiheke Small Sculpture Award 2020.
