Melissa Mead
Melissa Mead (born in Texas, USA) is fuelled by curiosity in her making with clay and life, blending various clays, exploring different surfaces, and playing with all forms of fire. In her works she attempts to play almost without limits, using the organic nature of various clays.
In 2020 Melissa moved to South Africa where she created a family and began her journey with clay. 2018 found her immigrating to New Zealand where Melissa’s work has shifted to exploring clay at each stage of the process, considering the various moments to stretch, slip, carve, and cut the form. “Through my forms, whether sculptural or functional, I’m always reaching toward connection and kinship– a shared experience through layers of life, revelry, oneness.”
