Tilly McLeod

Tilly McLeod

Tilly McLeod makes deceptively simple little whimsical textile art pieces with NZ coastal and countryside themes. Living in Matakatia Bay, Whangaparaoa, Tilly exhibits and sells her 'little wimsies' at a number of NZ galleries.

As Tilly charmingly says:

'I use what I call "rescued" materials - fabric and various textile scraps and yarn sourced mainly from quilting and stitching friends and op shops, i.e. keeping little bits out of landfill.  The cotton sewing thread, embroidery cottons and yarn, buttons and beads are all from op shops as I'm able to make good use of small amounts of different colours.  My father was an artist, cartoonist and caricaturist and I seem to have inherited his quirky and rather whimsical approach to life.  The sea, beaches, coastal walks and the outdoors inspire me, together with my love of stitching inherited from my mother who was of the "re-use, recycle and rescue" generation.  Although I use a very basic sewing machine for my backgrounds, the majority of my stitching is done by hand.  So good for my soul.  My happy place ❤'
