The soft green celadon glaze enhances this lovely dish with it's double-walled lid intricately pierced with koru and tiki motifs. The unfurling koru represents new life, growth, and renewal, while the tiki symbolises ancestry, protection, and the human spirit. Together, they weave a dialogue between beginnings and enduring connection - a harmony of form, light, and meaning.

Shim & Lee often drew on Maori symbolism in their artworks combining the ancient techniques of their Korean homeland with the ancient traditions of their new home in New Zealand.   

The Studio's Yang mark, symbolising the Yang side of the Yin-Yang philosophy of harmony, balance and energy, is clearly embossed on this lovely piece.
