Location: Karekare Beach, New Zealand

After a glorious summers day I decided to head out to Karekare beach which is just a half hour drive from where I live, arriving just as the as the sun was setting on the horizon over the vast ocean. Even though I am a regular visitor to Karekare I am always blown-away by this wild coastline and was still taking this in as I measured up the possible options for a photograph. The dusk light which was spread beautifully behind Paratahi Island – which sits just off Karekare Beach – caught my eye and I made my way toward that end of the beach and set up. It was a simply stunning evening with beautiful light all around and I was thrilled to capture a special image of Paratahi.
