Justine Hawksworth
Justine Hawksworth is an Auckland based artist working from her studio in Mount Eden. Her work seeks to resurface memories and connection to place.
Justine graduated in 1992 from Elam School of Fine Arts with a Bachelors Degree majoring in Applied Design. In 1996 she attended Auckland College of Education to gain a Diploma of Teaching and subsequently taught secondary school Art.
Hawksworth's practice is quintessentially kiwiana. Often using recycled marine charts as her inspiration and her backdrop, Justine Hawksworth carefully illustrates classic icons from the kiwi summer onto maps and vintage oars. These drawn works celebrate the beauty of the everyday, those things in nature that are so familiar to locals. Hawksworth works predominantly in acrylic and pencil.
Her works are held in collections in NZ and around the world.
